When you arrive, it's worth buying a racecard and all will be explained' for each race the horses and races will be listed with the key words and figures deciphered. If it's all still too much, just pick the one with the best name and rely on beginner's luck! The racecard also contains a map of the racecourse facilities to help you get your bearings


Dress Code for Epsom Racecourse:

Queen's Stand on Ladies Day
Gentlemen: jacket, collar and tie
Ladies: smart day dress. Hats are not compulsory but many wear them.

Queen's Stand on Derby Day
Gentlemen: either black or grey Morning Dress with a top hat, or Service Dress
Ladies: formal day dress or a trouser suit with a hat

Grandstand on both days
The dress code is officially smart casual, but many people like to dress up for both days of The Derby Festival.

By Rail to Epsom Station: Connection from London Waterloo & London Victoria. Take a 10 minute taxi or bus ride from the station.

Tattenham Corner Station. Aprroximately 1/2 mile walk to the racecourse.

Epsom Downs Station. Approximately 1 mile walk to the racecourse.

By Road

The racecourse is just a few minutes from Epsom Town Centre on the B290 Epsom Downs Road or alternatively just off junction 9 of the M25. During the racing season, AA signs will mark all major approach routes.

By Air

Heathrow Airport is approximately 23 miles from the racecourse. Gatwick is approximately 23 miles from the racecourse.
